Jaime Patillo of Little Lights Yoga offers an 8 week yoga class after school on Wednesdays from 2:45-3:15
When teaching yoga to young kids, it should be presented in a way that is fun and engaging. Classes may include songs, games, or rhymes and poses may be given kid-friendly names. Yoga related activities can be used to learn about the body, sharing, community, emotions and more. No matter the age, a typical yoga session will include:
Breathing (Pranayama): Specific breathing practices that increase blood oxygenation. They may produce calming or energizing effects.
Poses (Asanas): The physical postures or poses.
Meditation: Practices to help with the ability to clear the mind, concentrate and focus.
Deep Relaxation: This is the last pose done in every yoga class. This pose allows the body and mind to integrate with the benefits from the session. It also produces relaxation throughout the body and mind.
